It’s all going on…

I can’t believe it is just one week until, as Paper Swans Press, we publish our first printed anthology, The Darker Side of Love. Time has flown and it has been a very steep learning curve from the call for submissions, reading, debating, reading, debating, reading, selecting, checking, emailing, hiding, formatting, editing, editing, editing, editing, finding a printer, editing, getting an ISBN, organising the launch (ongoing) and fitting in Christmas and New Year.

The launch is next Friday (30th) at 7:30pm at The Poetry Café, Covent Garden. It’s an open event, so do turn up and say hello if you are in the vicinity. There will be chatting, readings from the poets and a bit more mooching. I am frantically trying to get everything ‘just right’ and, being a bit of perfectionist, I fear it won’t be. The venue is small in stature but great in status. A bit like us, I hope! It has a lovely atmosphere and I was over the moon to book it for our first public event.

I am already looking forward to our next publication, Schooldays, which is due to be published later this year. As we did for The Darker Side of Love, we have three editors on board and the call for submissions closes on 31st March. This time we are looking for poetry AND flash fiction, which I like to think of as creative cousins. We have put the date back from the original, having learned that time evaporates and, well, we needed more of it to get things done properly.

Also, I have been a bit remiss in getting our monthly flash fiction competition on task. We have had a *slightly* extended Christmas break and will be back in February. I am toying with the idea of making it a competition for poetry too, so there will be two winners, one for each category. Any thoughts/comments on this are very welcome. This is a site set up to support poets/writers and your opinions are key to getting it right.

Don’t forget, we are still taking submissions for our quarterly iPamphlet too, which is like an online anthology. Take a look at some previous issues to see what they’re like!

It’s all going on…
