International Women’s Day 2015

Who, do you think, is the most significant female writer of all time?

The most-voted for, but by a slim margin, was Jane Austen. Closely followed by Virginia Woolf and J.K. Rowling.

Who, do you think, is the most significant female poet of all time?

A very wide spread of names for this one, but in the lead was Emily Dickinson with Sylvia Plath snapping at her heels.

What is your favourite book (of any genre) written by a woman?

Again, a pretty even spread of choices here, but the lead was shared by the Harry Potter books and The Bell Jar.  Looking at the other questions, it seems Sylvia and Joanne are our pioneer women writers – both carving a new niche for women in the literary world, allowing a new voice to be heard.
